- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ tsp)
- 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F/43°C)
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 tsp sea salt
- ⅓ cup baking soda
- 4 tbsp melted butter
Instructions
- 1. Activate the yeast: Mix warm water, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- 2. Create the dough: In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture while kneading until smooth.
- 3. Knead: On a floured surface, knead the dough for about 5 minutes until elastic.
- 4. Let it rise: Place in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled.
- 5. Shape the pretzels: Punch down the dough, divide into pieces, roll into ropes, and twist into pretzel shapes.
- 6. Boil & bake: Boil water with baking soda; dip each pretzel for 30 seconds before placing on lined baking sheets. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 12-15 minutes until golden brown; brush with melted butter.
