  • 8 oz elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional)
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Boil salted water in a large pot. Add elbow macaroni and cook until al dente, about 8 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. In the same pot, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for one minute until lightly golden.
  3. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth, then stir in shredded cheddar until melted and creamy. Add spices if desired.
  4. Fold cooked pasta into the cheese sauce until evenly coated.
  5. Transfer mixture to a greased baking dish and sprinkle panko breadcrumbs on top.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 25-30 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown.
