Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 18×13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- Stir in buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 20-25 minutes. Check doneness with a toothpick; it should come out clean.
- While the cake cools slightly, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in cocoa powder and powdered sugar until smooth.
- Spread the frosting over the warm cake and sprinkle with chopped pecans if desired.
